Rabbi Howard Jachter

Rabbi Jachter’s Gemara, Tanach, Mishna, Halacha and Israel Advocacy students reap the benefits of his prolific knowledge and experience in many areas. Since 1995, Rabbi Jachter has taught a wide variety of classes on all levels at TABC. In addition, he leads the voluntary Masmidim learning group on Wednesday afternoons, the Thursday evening voluntary Mishmar, the summer Tanach Kollel and the student tzedakah committee. Serving as the chairman of the Tanach department since 2003, Rabbi Jachter brings the Israeli yeshiva style of Tanach study to TABC. Rabbi Jachter serves as the faculty advisor to Kol Torah, TABC’s weekly Torah newsletter with thousands of readers worldwide. Hundreds of Rabbi Jachter’s articles are archived at www.koltorah.org. Rabbi Jachter also serves as the faculty coordinator to the new TABC alumni association, in which he played a leading role in its formation. He received Yoreh Yoreh and Yadin Yadin Semicha, as well as, a master’s degree in Jewish Studies from Yeshiva University. In addition to teaching at TABC, Rabbi Jachter serves as a Dayan on the Beth Din of Elizabeth where he serves as a Get administrator and arbiter of commercial disputes. Rabbi Jachter has written three volumes of Gray Matter, a trilogy of contemporary halachic issues, with the assistance of TABC alumni Rabbi Ezra Frazer, Jesse Dunietz and Avi Levinson. Rabbi Jachter has compiled TABC student insights in his works Bikkurei Sukkah, Peninei Torah and Bikkurei Shabbat. He serves as the Co-Rabbi of the Sephardic Congregation of Teaneck and served as the interim rabbi for Congregation Rinat Yisrael of Teaneck. Rabbi Jachter advises many communities on Eruv construction, chairs the Rabbinical Council of America Igun committee, serves as a member of the Rabbinical Council of America Halacha Commission and lectures on topics of vital concern to audiences throughout North America. Rabbi Jachter resides in Teaneck with his wife Malca and his five children.
